Overview
Private Roots prides itself on providing safe, quality surgical care with cutting-edge equipment and well-trained support staff. Surgeries can range from routine procedures like spaying or neutering to complex, specialized operations such as C-sections, tumor removals, or dental surgery.
When It’s Needed
Your animal may require surgical care for:
- Trauma or injury (fractures, lacerations, internal bleeding)
- Soft tissue problems (tumors, abscesses, skin defects)
- Dentistry (cleaning, dental radiographs, surgical tooth extraction)
- Urgent conditions (intestinal obstructions, bladder stones, severe infections)
- Preventive care (spay/neuter, removal of benign growths)
Preparation and Procedure
Before surgery, your Private Roots providers will:
- Perform a physical exam and pre-anesthetic blood tests
- Advise on fasting the night before to keep the stomach empty (unless otherwise directed)
- We also send home pre-anesthetic medications to minimize nausea associated with anesthesia and a medication to calm your animal before admission.
During Surgery
- Your Animal is placed under general anesthesia and monitored closely for vital signs with monitoring equipment such as: ECG, Blood Pressure, Oxygenation, Body Temperature, Hydration (with IV fluids)
- The surgical site is sterilized to prevent infection
- The procedure is performed in a dedicated sterile surgical suite
Post-Surgery Care
Recovery depends on the surgery type, but generally includes:
- Restricted activity to prevent complications
- Follow-up visits for wound checks and healing progress
- Medication for pain, infection prevention, or other conditions
- Grooming restrictions (e.g., no baths for 2 weeks after most surgeries)
